I wanted one. Then I read David Pogue’s review. I now don’t want one. Whew!Great review. I’ve said before that wanting an iPhone phone and settling for something else will leave you very disappointed until you actually end up getting an iPhone.
Hello? Isn’t the thumb keyboard the defining feature of a BlackBerry? A BlackBerry without a keyboard is like an iPod without a scroll wheel. A Prius with terrible mileage. Cracker Jack without a prize inside.
I’m sorry but for a professional reviewer- journalist - at a very noted publication to say things in such a ridiculous manner. Especially given the most popular iPod has no click wheel (it’s not a scroll wheel Pogue) and the head of the department handling the old style iPods is now gone from Apple. The only valid analogy in the bunch is a “prius with terrible mileage”, and that analogy isn’t apt in my opinion. I know plenty of people who like the BlackBerry because its operating system handles massive amounts of emails and business related (read Exchange) based operations.
I wouldn’t like a storm for myself. The Verizon network is, in my experience, much better then AT&T’s and I like the thought of a little more innovation in the touch screen world but the device has no WiFi and has a terrible web browser not to mention a terrible media player. This device, like most BBs, isn’t for the home user. I’m sure the OS has problems and isn’t nearly as nice as Apple’s mobile OSX but for many people there are legitimate advantages to it.
While I like Pogue’s energy I can’t take any of his reviews seriously because he comes of as such a hardcore Apple shill. Even Mossberg brings some more respectability and ethos to his reviews.
